STORM

it breaks out of the ocean, through the air
it rises like a hand outstretched toward
the clouds. one thousand lights flicker and sway,
in unison, we cower in the dark.

the cyclic winds uproot and tear the sea
and hurl it through the icy, bitter air,
crashing into the city’s glass and stone,
the vitriolic blue and darkest green.

atop our monuments, we stand as one,
transfixed upon the churning, restless sea.
the Earth has demonstrated its intent,
let it come and carry us all away.
